The Winter Lantern is a world premiere theatrical production written and composed by James W. Knox for chorus, soprano solo, narrator, chamber orchestra, and Irish dancers. Set in the fantasy snowbound village of Caerwyn, the piece blends music, spoken word, and movement to tell a story of memory, endurance, and the fragile light that carries a community through winter’s silence. The work unfolds as a cinematic journey where sound, text, and dance merge into a living landscape of snow, shadow, and hope.
Experience Light and Reflection, a concert of luminous sound, powerful contrast, and musical depth, presented by the Cascade Chorale Association. At its center is Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, a sweeping choral orchestral work that journeys from stillness to transcendence, blending choir, piano, and strings into a radiant expression of sound and spirit.
Surrounding the centerpiece is a program of modern choral works that inspire and uplift Arnesen’s soaring Flight Song, Hagenberg’s expansive Measure Me, Sky!, Paulus’s timeless The Road Home, Forrest’s vibrant The Music of Living, and Whitacre’s shimmering Glow. Instrumental interludes by Max Richter (Spring 1) and Erik Satie (Gymnopédie No. 1) offer moments of stillness and reflection, creating space within the larger musical arc.
Together these works form a journey of motion and repose, music that rises, breathes, and illuminates. Light and Reflection invites audiences into an experience where sound becomes meaning, and meaning becomes light.
